Modern facilities use networked digital cameras that record continuously and store footage for a set period (typically 30-90 days). Cameras cover all common areas but not the inside of individual units — your privacy is respected. Footage is monitored by staff and available to law enforcement if an incident occurs. Quality matters: look for facilities with HD cameras, night vision capability, and sufficient coverage that there are no blind spots in hallways or loading areas.
CCTV should be a baseline requirement, not a nice-to-have. Any reputable facility will have comprehensive camera coverage. If a facility doesn't mention CCTV on their listing — ask. If they don't have it — leave.
